Assignments 10/3 – 10/7

October 2, 2011

Monday 10/3

Vocab List 4

Grammar Rule #4

Sonny’s Blues final thoughts

Short Story basics

Homework (due Wednesday 10/5)

  1. Use Word Smart to create this week’s vocabulary list.  Include the word, its part of speech, the definition and your own sentence.  Type it, print it and stick it in your vocab section.
  2. You’re going to need to know all those terms we discussed today, so it makes sense to get started with them.  Set them up in the same way you study vocab–flash cards, genius, or some other way. This is not required, but trust me when I tell you that it will pay off.

Wednesday 10/5

Hemingway & Fitzgerald

  1. Finish reading Hemingway’s  “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place” (page 296)
  2. Read “An Alcoholic Case” by F. Scott Fitzgerald (page 302)
  3. Be prepared for an MRQ.

Thursday 10/6

Vocab Review

More about Hemingway and Fitzgerald

  1. Study for vocab and grammar–40 words and 4 grammar rules

Friday 10/7

Vocabulary/Grammar Quiz #4

Homework (Due Wednesday 10/12)

  1.  Read “Hunters in the Snow” by Tobias Wolff.  It’s a bit long, but it’s a really good story AND you have several days to get it done.
  2. Read the last paragraph of the introduction to the story and use that as a springboard for a brief (1/2 – 1 page typed) response to the story.  You discuss your thoughts and questions about the story. Think about how the author develops character in this story.  Will you ever think about pancakes the same way again?
